Summary

Third wolves believe that all of creation is be hunted by three wolves. When they are not in the sky, the white wolf and the black are inside us fighting it out as to whether or not we commit acts of good or evil. The red wolf is the stranger, the deceiver, and the outsider. They care not about balance and represent the chaos that we have no control over. When something dies, it is taken by the wolf which it fed the most to it’s lair. In the lair the wolf decides on three options, to let you squirm in mortality as prey, to reward you and let you join their pack, or to end your cycle of life and death with one bite. With no trial and no debate, the decision is made instantly.

Third wolves are one of the few religions that don’t seek the truths of creation. They call themselves third wolves because they believe they are always the third wolf of the three. When a child becomes old enough, they perform a ritual to choose which wolf they are and never reveal it. While this mysterious tradition is thousands of years old, the general consensus is that it encourages people to choose their own path, while still understanding that they are still part of a group. Today, third wolves make up only 8% of Kepler’s population, but recently have become popular in areas like Mahgaway.

Beliefs

The white wolf represents our selfishness, the black wolf represents our selflessness, and the red wolf represents a mysterious outside force. At night, the white wolf prowls the sky and hunts the stars. Each star a sin that a mortal has committed. It is often misguided, thinning the herd, but creating new dangers in it’s wake. The white wolf eats without end and shares nothing. When there is no white wolf, the the stars repopulate and the black wolf is free to roam the sky. The black wolf hunts in modesty and shares its kill. Not enough to cull the herd, but enough to keep the sky balanced. The red wolf does not hunt and instead takes the kill. It is the mysterious and unknown wolf that is ever present contributes nothing to cycle.
