SpellArms is a fantasy themed Trading Card Game with no mana, no energy, and no resources holding you back.
In SpellArms, players are represented by contestants participating in a magical battle royale. Using a variety of cards, contestants must defeat their opponents and survive till the end.
What is a Trading Card Game?
A collectible card game (CCG), also called a trading card game (TCG) among other names, is a type of card game that mixes strategic deck building elements with features of trading cards, introduced with Magic: The Gathering in 1993. Think of it like poker, but each person has their own deck of 52 they can customize and trade with other collectors.
Why the name SpellArms?
A SpellArm is a play on the word firearm and is the main weapon used by the characters in this game. In the world of SpellArms, gunpowder does not exist, so people have had to substitute new weapons that use magic to shoot spells at each other. One SpellArm may shoot fireballs using ancient runes whereas another SpellArm may use the cursed energy of a broken mirror and launch ghosts like a crossbow.
What’s the current plan?
Right now we are focusing on getting the starter decks perfect. Once those are complete, we will working on getting this project ready for public crowd funding. If successful, we will be working around the clock to release the 1st expansion to the world and put in the work necessary to keep releasing new expansions. We have 14 expansions currently in production and many more on the way. This totals to roughly 3,200 cards in different stages.
What makes SpellArms special?
Most card games on the market use a resource or faction system to balance it’s cards. They demand the game be played a specific way and stifle the ability for true deck construction. SpellArms has none of these, which allows deck builders to really shine and make the best use of their tools. It also means that you don’t have to wait several minutes to unleash powerful SpellArms and show off cool combos. We want the meta to be defined by the players and their choices, not by who drew the best hand. This also means that every mechanic has been carefully chosen, tested, and adjusted to ensure meaningful decisions in every play, every draw, and every attack.
Are there plans to release an online version?
SpellArms will always focus on its physical cards, but we are open to creating an online version you can download. This really comes down to the success of the game and the extra funding we can contribute to this. Currently we use a version of the game on Screentop.gg, but this is mainly for demo purposes. If and when we do release the full game online, we will ensure we put our best foot forward.
