Before you go forward, please be aware that there are multiple different ways to start playing SpellArms. No way is the right, but this recommended by the SpellArms team officially.

Step 1: Starters!

Buy a Starter deck. Pick whichever one you like. Remember, you are learning how to play.

Step 2: Practice!

Using the starter deck, play against a friend or at a local gaming store. We recommend playing against another starter deck. Learn each phase slowly and take your time going over the rules. You can also watch videos on how to play.

Step 3: Boosters!

Buy a three booster packs. This will slowly introduce new cards that you can play with. Always go with the newest set as it will easiest to learn any new mechanics or rules. Why three? For a nice wide variety of cards.

Step 4: Research!

Do your research. Check out the website and other websites for card and deck suggestions. It is ok if you are not sure what kind of deck you want to play or if you don’t have all the cards. Part of a trading card game is the collecting aspect. This takes time and money, but there is no rush.

Step 5: Play Play Play!
No pain no gain. Play as much as you can and don’t worry about winning or losing. Go to events, play in tournaments, set up games with friends. Videos can teach you how to play, but only experience can teach you how to win even if everything goes wrong. In the TCG community, we call that learning how to “pilot” a deck.

Step 6: Choices!

If your at this step, then it’s clear you know what’s next. Cards. We recommend buying booster boxes over booster packs, but booster packs are a great way to treat yourself. Remember, your fellow players also want cards. If possible, try splitting the cost of a booster box or booster case with others. This lets everyone get a chance at some powerful cards, but also lets everyone get a chance to build the deck they want to. Who knows… you just might get the card everyone wants.
