The Evershift

“No stars… no moon… no compass… and no roads. We aren’t lost, we have been kidnapped.”
Summary
Aaru or "The Path" is the path that exists between the physical world and the astral plane. It is the point in which the two perfectly blend into one another, creating a seamless path between the two. Mortals and immortals can easily traverse physically onto the Aaru and when a mortal dies their spirit can see guides which lead them through the entire path to the astral plane. The Path has no physical form is, but its closest comparison would be a strong influence or pull towards the end of it.
Ambysium or "The Evershift" is the area off the path and exists as the combined will of mortals and immortals that get lost in it. Inhabitants are those who may have been tempted or forcibly pulled into this area. While the path rarely fades off after leaving it, the Evershift is infamous for its influence on mortals senses and its corruptive properties on immortals that cause those to stray off it. The Evershift is not divine or physical, but a limbo between with influence towards both. In divine texts, it is referred to as a world with no borders and no territory. Since the Evershift is impossible to map, it's areas are defined as birthing domains. These birthing domains are from which its inhabitants are created and lost mortals are draw to.
